First off we've an alternate version of Snow White

Red as Blood by Cecilia Eng
https://sonichits.com/video/Cecilia_Eng/Red_as_Blood?track=1

Then we have another filk to the same tune
Blood Will Tell by Michael Hopcroft

Little Girl of Little wit,
Stretch your little mind a bit.
My eyes are large to pierce the night;
My teeth are long and sharp and white.
The woodsman sought to end my life
With wolvesbane and a silver knife.
His throat is torn from ear to ear,
The better not to interfere.

Chorus:
For I am the old one,
Of fur, flesh, and bone.
And I am the cold one
You must face alone.

Your mother did her very best
To Train you for this final test,
Then sent you off to Grandma's bed,
The full moon waning overhead.
You've basked in Mother's care enough;
Now prove to me you have the stuff.
And if you fail, you won't go back,
For this is how we thin the pack.

chorus

The secret that your blood conceals
Is not for those whose chat reveals
The whereabouts of all their kin
To strangers with a wolfish grin.
Now see me change before your eyes
As I cast off my human guise.
Your caution now is far too late.
Granddaughter, fool, come meet your fate!

For years I've occasionally had a tune running thru my head in dreams.

Months back,it gained some words. Certain parts are still unclear (ie I can't be sure of the exact words I heard).

Ninety1 days without water
Ninety1 days without rain2
We all feel the weight of the wheel
None of the rest remain.

1 the word *definitely* ended with "tee" (or perhaps "teen". And was definitety two syllables. But it could be 30, 60, 13, etc

2 probably "rain", but might have been pain

Anyway, it was a bit slow and "solemn" sounding. Not as far as a dirge, but tending that way.

A bunch of studio quality recordings from Filkcon 1 have been unearthed.

I'seen mentions of Kate Bush for years, but I hadn't knowingly heard anything by her. That was taken care of by somee FB posts. Two of her videos definitely deal with the subject. The first is Cludbusting

This one has especialy *stupid* government MiBs. The way they ransack his lab probably destroyed a lot of stuff they could have used.

Also, why did they leave the machine?I' also uncertain as to why he's so happy when his daughter uses it at the end.

The second one on the topic is Experiment IV. This one is a definite "be careful what you ask for" cautionary tale. Also an example of why you should not force people to work on something they think is a bad idea.

Gay Jolene

Well after some of the comments about there being a gay version of Jolene, a bit of searching turned up two of them!

and a gay horror version...

A couple of "different" takes on Dolly Parton's "Jolene".

Pirate Jenny (from The Threepenny Opera) sun by Lotte Lenya (who sang the the original German version in the movie back in 1931)

Warning: the dream she describes is more than a bit violent. not *detailed* violence, but...

Interesting side note. When Bobby Darin sang his version of Mack the Knife (Also from The Threepenny Opera) he included her name in the lyrics as one of MacHeath's girlfriends.

Apparently The Threepenny Opera is *very* anti-capitalist. :-)

The other day I linked to "mack the Knife" in a reply to something. It was pointed out that there should have been warnings. Oops. But that got me to look up some things about The Threepenny Opera, which is what it's from.

Going to the version in the movie, even the english subtitles have the words different from the version Bobby Darrin sings. and I'm given to understand that the German lyrics are actually even worse than that.

In the process of all this looking up, I discovered that there was another (in)famous song from The Threepenny Opera.. Pirate Jenny.

I haven't watched the movie yet, but either Jenny is having a very nasty revenge fantasy, or some people are about to learn the hard way about mistreating the "lower classes".

Either way, it's an example of what [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith has referred to as a "fifty foot robot moment". That's where the worm not only turns, but turns out to be a *large* sandworm.

(added)

Syncronicity comes in as I'd earlier looked up some things about Watchmen (the TV series and the the original comics) and got reminded of the Tales of the Black Freighter comic inside the comic.

I now suspect that the Black Freighter in that comc was a reference to the one in Pirate Jenny.

Yet another earworm. I first heard this in the mid-70s. No idea who wrote it.

Warning: it deals with political terrorists and karma.
