The other day I linked to "mack the Knife" in a reply to something. It was pointed out that there should have been warnings. Oops. But that got me to look up some things about The Threepenny Opera, which is what it's from.

Going to the version in the movie, even the english subtitles have the words different from the version Bobby Darrin sings. and I'm given to understand that the German lyrics are actually even worse than that.

In the process of all this looking up, I discovered that there was another (in)famous song from The Threepenny Opera.. Pirate Jenny.

I haven't watched the movie yet, but either Jenny is having a very nasty revenge fantasy, or some people are about to learn the hard way about mistreating the "lower classes".

Either way, it's an example of what [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith has referred to as a "fifty foot robot moment". That's where the worm not only turns, but turns out to be a *large* sandworm.

Syncronicity comes in as I'd earlier looked up some things about Watchmen (the TV series and the the original comics) and got reminded of the Tales of the Black Freighter comic inside the comic.

I now suspect that the Black Freighter in that comc was a reference to the one in Pirate Jenny.

Last sentence, oh so very much.

Alan Moore then stole "Pirate Jenny" wholesale for one of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen sequels.
