I've been fighting various computer weirdnesees for the last several days.
And now I'm having to run Norton Disk Doctor on my main windows box. The drive I'm running it on is *only 40 gig. And the projected time to completiomn figure is totally bogus (It says 3:53:xx, but it's only 5% done and has been running for an hour and a half. My projections say it's gonna be more like 33-34 hours)
This sucks mightily,, as my bookmarks are inaccessible, I don't have most of the software I use all the time, etc.
And this may not fix the problem I was trying to solve, anyway.

After I get the D & E partitions defragged, I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling TCP/IP. I've already reset the cable modem and the router.
I can tell fpr sure if the other wiindows box ishaving similar problems or not as it runs a digfferent software mix.
