Finally got a working power supply for the old laptop a friend gave me.

Didn't notice that the clock was way off. Or rather the *date* was way off (sometime in March) had to go several rounds with Windows update and various suggested fixes before the update would "take".

All because Windows doesn't think it needs to check the time with a time server after connecting to the net. (yes, Windows *will* synch up with a time server. Every few *months*!!!)

Similar pain in the behind

Put hard drive from dead computer into older computer. Boot up, Windows says I have three days to re-certify. No prob, I should be able to do everything I want to in three days. But when I connect to the Internet it updates the time, and suddenly thinks the three days is up :-(. Since I'm planning on putting that drive into a box with a new board (as soon as I pick out the chip and mobo I want ^_^), I don't know if it's worth hassling with Microsith when I'm just going to have to reauthorize that version of Windows _again_ fairly soon.

I hate Microsoft.
