Got an "obvious" idea that may help with some patient workups.

For the past couple of months, I've been dealing with a fairly common problem for folks who have diabetes and poor circulation in a limb. I minor wound that got large enough to be a worry, and then ages ages to heal.

It's doing as well as can be expected. Healing, but slowly. So don't worry about that.

Last week, the nurse who was replacing the dressing after the doc had checked it had carefully pressed on some areas around the wound to check and see if they were painful. And there were the usual questions about how much it had healed since last time.

It was kind of difficult to do the "no, there, not there" bit without touching things again. I joked that a laser pointer would make things *much* easier.

So this week I brought mine. Made it ever so much easier to point things out and describe stuff "It was out to there[circle with pointer] last time." and so on.

The nurse said she'd have to get herself one because it really did help.

My comments are that the more expensive green ones will likely show up better than the cheap red ones. Also, You'll likely want the pen sized units that use a pair of AAA batteries rather than one that uses watch batteries.

Dunno how generally useful they are, but I expect there are enough to justify having one. And you can amuse kids with it too. :-)

And the cats :-)

At least, it's amusing to _us_ to watch them try to catch the elusive little red bug... *EG*

Those little infrared temp guns have really come down in price (mine was $150, you can buy the same exact unit for $30 now) and they can be used to find infections.

Technology is cool.
