It occurs to me that you might be interested in some terminology some other folks on my f-list use.

boss: person you work for (supervisor, manager, whatever)
grandboss: person your boss works for
great-grandboss: person your grandboss works for

And so on, up the chain.

In academia, it's:

Advisor/Chair: the person supervising your work when you're a grad student

Grandadvisor/Grandchair: The person who supervised them when they were a grad student

Great-grandadvisor/Great-grandchair: Probably dead by now
