Micro$ith? Micro$ux?

I bought my first PC just before Win95 hit the market, and ran Win3.1 until it got to the point where it was getting nigh impossible to get software for it. Then I went to Win98, and ran it until just over a year ago when we broke down and bought a new computer that has XP Media. The old box still has 98, though I have to admit that there's a BIG difference in the stability of the two systems. We've considered putting XP on the 8 box, but I refuse to give MS that kind of money.

I plan on keeping XP as long as we can manage. If/when it gets to the point where it's starting to get problematic, maybe I'll give Linux another chance (I tried putting it on a 2nd drive on the 98 box, and it quickly became more of a headache than it was worth, even when I disconnected the drive with 98 on it.)

Another couple of tidbits I found today:

The link to this blog on Znet was titled "Is Vista going to be the new Windows ME?" Not a good sign for MS :-).

CNET is running a poll where 35% of the respondents are saying "No way!" to installing Vista. The online version of the newsletter is at http://nl.com.com/view_online_newsletter.jsp?list_id=e497&tag=nl.e497.

Well, having XP on both boxes would make things simpler for us ("us" including the less-computer savvy members of the household *g*). The kid would be happy if the media software that runs on the main box also ran on the old box, and it didn't crash several times a day.

If you have the XP install disk and aren't using it, and it's all good and legal-like as far as MS is concerned, I'd be willing to buy it off you. That way, you'd be getting the $$ instead of MS. Though we'd have to work out a price, since no matter who's getting the money I can't really afford to pay full price for it :-(. Time to take this off-board, I think.
