Yeah, like this is news to anybody who has been paying attention.
What gets me is the way the spokespeople in the interview say they want to reduce teen pregnancy but refuse to consider any fall back for *when* (not if) abstinence fails.
In someone's LJ today, I saw a lovely comment about a different way to think of the anti-abortion arguments.
Every single one of them could be applied to *forcing* someone to donate a kidney if it would save someone's life. But there's no way people would stand for *that*...
This is making me wish more and more to be an anti-government person outright. At this point I think the government has some responciblity to protect and serve the citizens it taxes, but not dictate what they can and can not do behind closed doors and with someone they care about. Abortion frees the woman. If she is fucked up because she had an abortion then she needs counceling.
I have to agree with you on all that you have said. I am sure that the community would agree with you that the need exists, but I dont think that they would want to pay for that service. Most women who ask for an abortion do not have insurance and that makes them even more vulnerable to this issue.
