Yay! I can talk about it!
Dec. 22nd, 2008 10:00 amAuthor Ryk Spoor(
seawasp) has posted the first two chapters of his next novel in his LJ.

It's good. And gets even better as it progresses. And then there's the first sequel (currently being written). And that's all I'm allowed to say.
(I *love* being a beta reader. Except for the whole "you can't talk about this" part)

Snowed in?
Dec. 22nd, 2008 04:27 pmI went to mail some stuff today. I left the apartment around 10 am.
At 11, a bus, not the one that was supposed to be on the route, but one diverted from another route to get around a hill the buses couldn't handle. It wasn't going to 57th and Sandy, but it was going to 57th and Fremont. Still a ways to walk but better than walking from where I was.
After getting on, I realized I could ride it to 72nd and Sandy and still catch the bus to the Post Office (at 50th & Sandy). I only had to wait a short time and I got that Sandy bus to the post office. The line wasn't too bad, and I had my stuff mailed by quarter to 12.
Now, I also needed to pay the light bill. There's a pay station at 42nd. I decided (correctly) to walk as I doubted there'd be a bus before even I could walk that far.
This was rather more interesting than I'd expected, because the snow has built up a built. For example when I got off the bus at the post office. and one point I stepped in knee deep snow.
Thank goodness I'd dug out a pair of Doc Martens that went above my ankles. Alas, since they were slip ons, they didn't provide much ankle support. And walking to the pay station, there were a lot of times when the somewhat packed snow I was walking on would give way under one side or the other of my foot.
At last I got to the place that had the pay station. And it was closed.
So I walked back to Sandy and waited. Caught a bus up to 57th after 15-20 minutes. It was around quarter to 1 by then. And my transfer expired at 1:30.
At last a bus finally showed up. Around 1:45 or 2. The driver didn't look too hard at my transfer, thank goodness.
And then he started announcing that Tri-Met was shutting down most of the bus lines. He was the last run on the 71 route. Yipe!
Finally got home and made some nice hot noodles.
In theory a package is being delivered tommorrow. We'll see. If I need to mail more stuff before Christmas, it'd be Wednesday and the post office closes at 1. So that'll either be done early or not at all.
I've paid the bill by phone (cost $2.95 instead of the dollar the pay station charges)
Bleah.
If I'm feeling ambitious, I may take my camera (should have taken it with me) and take some snow photos. :-)
