Baby, it's cold outside
Dec. 16th, 2008 03:02 pmHad to mail a couple of things. With the extreme (for Portland) cold, deciding what to wear was interesting.
I didn't choose *too* badly, The flannel shirt worked well enough to keep me arm, though if it's still this cold next time I have to ship something (quite possible) I'll add the heavy vest I got some years back over it.
Stocking cap worked ok for the head. I do wish I knew whatever happened to the insulated hat with ear flaps I had when I moved to Portland all those years ago. It disappeared during a move and we don't get enough cold weather to justify buying one.
The two big mistakes were that I didn't bother with socks (It's a pain putting them on, and lack of them hadn't been a problem in previous cold snaps). And I forgot the gloves that were in the pocket of my sweater.
The lack of gloves wasn't too bad, since the sleeves on the flannel shirt went down past my fingers. But since the buses are way off schedule, the lack of socks was a real problem when I tried to get home from the post office.
I could have walked to the place where I'd transfer long before a bus finally came. But the way the street runs, I could have also have gotten caught between stops as you can't see far enough down the street. So I waited. And my feet got colder and colder.
