Had to mail a couple of things. With the extreme (for Portland) cold, deciding what to wear was interesting.

I didn't choose *too* badly, The flannel shirt worked well enough to keep me arm, though if it's still this cold next time I have to ship something (quite possible) I'll add the heavy vest I got some years back over it.

Stocking cap worked ok for the head. I do wish I knew whatever happened to the insulated hat with ear flaps I had when I moved to Portland all those years ago. It disappeared during a move and we don't get enough cold weather to justify buying one.

The two big mistakes were that I didn't bother with socks (It's a pain putting them on, and lack of them hadn't been a problem in previous cold snaps). And I forgot the gloves that were in the pocket of my sweater.

The lack of gloves wasn't too bad, since the sleeves on the flannel shirt went down past my fingers. But since the buses are way off schedule, the lack of socks was a real problem when I tried to get home from the post office.

I could have walked to the place where I'd transfer long before a bus finally came. But the way the street runs, I could have also have gotten caught between stops as you can't see far enough down the street. So I waited. And my feet got colder and colder.

Finally got a bus, and while waiting for the second one, I saw two more go by in less than 5 minutes. So something had delayed them. That explained why I'd seen two go by the wrong way while I'd been waiting at the first stop.

When I got home, I was glad I'd dug out the fleece lined slippers last night. I bought them a few years back but hadn't really needed them.

And for those of you who've spent any time here, be prepared for a shock. I actually turned the heat on (well "up" actually.)

I normally leave it set at 50, because even in a normal winter it gets *way* to hot in here (I've had it go past 80. Even 90 once, a few years back)

But it was 66 when I got up and only 70 when I got home. So I turned it up and it's 73 now, which is still a bit colder than my body likes these days, but bearable.
