Can we kill the stupid programmers?
Apr. 25th, 2008 11:32 amA friend just quit her job because she was getting screwed over on her pay. Due to a software bug some of her shifts weren't getting recorded.
Her manager refused to forward her claim to HR.
She'd complained about it before, but only this time did she mention a critical detail.
The "lost" shifts started Saturday night and ended Sunday morning.
I can now hear the groans from all the *competent* programmers who've had to do date/time calculations.
Crossing midnight is a common problem for time calcs. So are crossing a week boundary, month boundary and year boundary.
*All* are things a competent programmer should *explicitly* test for. Obviously some yahoo didn't.
And having no hardcopy time records other than timesheets which this manager can apparently ignore at whim? That's a different sort of incompetence. But at least the state wage & hoiur board can ream him a new one over *that*
