Modern technology...

I just got off the phone with a friend in Aberdeen Wa. She was calling to try to figure out what exactly was going on in her area.
You see, the big storm that hit the Oregon & Washington coast over the weekend and is only now starting to die out had kicked out their power this morning. And even though they have a battery powered radio for emergencies, they couldn't pick up any stations that had any info.
But they still had phone service so they called me.
After some digging, I was able to tell them that their county and an adjacent county are without power, and there's no estimate on when it'll be restored. Mostly because *all* the roads into the area are either flooded, blocked by fallen trees or have downed power lines.
Ya gotta love it. Calling almost 200 miles to find out about *local* conditions...
