Reading thru the message on Freecycle I keep seeing people offering "bunch of books I don't read anymore.

Yet if someone offers tapes, DVDs or CDs, they list the titles.

The image of the average person on the group I get from this bothers me...

Our Freecycle list is the same way down here in SF.

Of course, I don't drive, so I've mostly used Freecycle to get rid of clutter.

That's weird. I'll have to ask Russ (who handles the FreeCycle stuff for our household) whether he's observed the same thing.

I can't imagine posting "bunch of books" with no titles! How is anyone going to know whether or not they want them?

Hmmm... well, maybe if I was culling my Regency shelves. I do know that there are people who are absolutely unpicky about romances; they don't care what it is or who it's by as long as it's a romance novel.

I asked Russ. He says that mostly what he sees is "box of [genre] books," and points out that generally these are people who want to get rid of the box as a unit, not let the recipients cherry-pick. That was an aspect I hadn't thought about.
