Well, that was painful...
May. 11th, 2004 06:49 pmI had a doctor appointment today. Just checking on my meds and renewing the scrip.
Various medical stuff follows.
The appointment went well. The doctor confirmed what I'd been afraid of, namely that an area on my left shin is probably badly compromised venous flow. So the blood gets *into* my leg just fine, but doesn't get *out* of that area at all well.
This does make me more susceptible to some things, and means I have to be *real* careful about cuts and scrapes in the affected area as they'll heal very, very slowly and be extra susceptible to infection.
The "painful" part was that somewhere along the line, nobody told me about the tests the doctor had wanted me to get. So I didn't fast, and thus they had to skip a few. Plus, I'm just *so* thrilled with blood draws... NOT!
The real pain was the fact that the tests cost me $45! Ouch!
They'll be calling me with an eye appointment in the next few days, and I need to schedule a general physical (it's been a while). I'll get the other tests done in conjunction with one or the other of those.
Didn't occur to me until later, but I think I'll ask the doctor about thyroid tests as my normally low body temp is running even lower (used to be about a degree low, these days, it's running more like *two* degrees low.). And maybe a testosterone check as I'm mildly suspicious about my T levels.
My blood pressure was fine. :-) My weight was too high, which I already knew, as I bought a medical scale a few weeks back (only way I could get one that went over 350 lb.
So, basically, I keep taking my meds, checking my blood sugar, and try to get back into shape.
