Clueless in Georgia
Mar. 24th, 2004 05:35 pmGeorgia House bans genital piercings for women
Georgia legislators are *so* out of touch it isn't even funny.
Then again, this *is* the state that rather than rescind a sodomy law after a lot of bad press about a het male getting sent to prison for admitting to having performed oral sex on his wife during a divorce hearing, instead passed a bill that released *only* him from prison while leaving all the other men imprisoned under the same law in prison.

Date: 2004-03-24 07:41 pm (UTC)The intent of the law is to prevent FGM. This is a GOOD thing. I'm not so respectful of other cultures/religions as to grant them the right to mutilate their children in a way that completely destroys the capacity for normal sexual pleasure.

Date: 2004-03-24 08:17 pm (UTC)It's not just that the amendment is bad. It's that it (and I suspect the "original" bill) are way too broad.
For example, if someone *chooses* that of their own free will, then it's their choice. I hold the same view with respect to the guys who cose circumcision, castration penectomy, and all those other genital mods out there.
Heck, I have to wonder if this law wouldn't outlaw "bottom surgery" for F2M transsexuals. Unless they wetre *incredibly* careful in their wording, I'd bet not.
Intent, probaly ok. Execution... way off.
