Monday I got around to buying a gizmo that I'd seen in a Radio Shack flyer a few months back. It's a watch that has a wireless link to a heart rate monitor gixzom that goes on your chest.

If you enter the right data about your height, weight, etc it'll give you an idea of how many calories you've burned during an exercise session.

I got it because I'm a geek, and because I actually have some uses for it.

Alas, the sensor isn't waterproof enough for the pool, though the watch part is. So I can't use it while swimming. But I can use it on the bike and the like.

Anyway, after dealing with the really *lousy* directions, I got it set up and tried it out. "All I did was get some stuff together and walk a few blocks to see if some friends were done with some books and DVDs I'd loaned them. They weren't home. But doing that my heart rate went to 156 at one point and was over 140 for most of it.

It's been 15 minutes and it's still above 100. <sigh>

I was afraid of that, but it's nice to have numbers.

ps. I have plans for this at Kinkfest. I'm going to see what effect various things have on my heart rate. :-)
