Yesterday I went over to Kathy's. Her cable box is somewhat better behaved now, and she showed me a bunch of the HDTV channels. And other interesting features.

One thing she showed me was the Cinemax "adult" channels (which the folks at the cable company she works for refer to as "skin-e-max").

She kept asking me to pick something (to show the "video on demand" feature.

So I picked "Lord of the G-String".

Oh god. It's a Lord of the Rings parody. With a Throbbit named Dildo Saggin as the main character. *She* is actually kind of cute. And wonder of wonder, she's *not* the result of a boob job. She's got a realistic body (as opposed to the plot).

We only watched a few minutes of it. But it was sufficiently silly that I may try finding a rental copy.

After messing around with the set some more we headed out to see about getting a DVI cable to connect the set to the box instead of the component video cable we were using. I'd seen them online for about $20.

We hit Best Buy (which actually happen to carry the set Kathy had won at work). I was shocked to discover that it was $1500!

But the real shock was when the guy dug up a cable for us. They wanted $99.95 for the cable!!!

I've since re-checked online and found that a lot of places sell them for that. My initial search had turned up a place that sells them at *wholesale* prices.

Oh well, we got some other stuff. I got a CD/DVD cleaning and polishing gizmo. Unlike the one I already had, which is hand cranked, *this* one is motorized. My arm is thankful. Alas, I've got a rather deep scratch to deal with on one CD. :-(

I also picked up some DVDs. As did Kathy.

We also checked on some software. I got a copy of Hijaak (a graphics conversion & editing package). I had an ancient version of it, but I figured I could use an update. But they didn't have the other software I was looking for.

We decided to try a couple other places as well. I found the software I was looking for at Office Depot (Win ME, god help me. I've had several folks who had systems running it who had lost their CDs, and I wasn't able to do anything about it. So it will pay for itself eventually)

I also spotted a gizno I hadn't known existed. It's a USB switchbox. For sharing a USB device between up to four computers. You can plug in a hub if you want to share several devices, though they'd all be attached to the same computer at any given time.

They didn't have the cable though (hadn't really expected them to, but...)

Then we hit Fred Meyer's since they sometimes have stuff in their video section. They didn't have it either, but Kathy found a cordless phone to replace her flaky one. And I got more DVDs.

The DVD Haul:

Looney Tunes Premier Collection volume 1 (2 DVDs of Looney Tunes!)
Patton
Destination Moon
Rocketship X-M
The Last Starfighter
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

HAHAHAHA

I watched that last night. Most did have realistic bodies in that wacked out movie.
