Since I was ordering a 10 pack of 50 gig BD-Rs from Amazon, I decided to see if I could get a 10 pack of 25 gig ones as well.

My search criteria were BD-R, 25 gig, 10 pack and archival.

Only one vendor showed up.

They were really cheap ($5) and with shipping came to just under $10.

They arrived Friday. and by Saturday evening I'd gone thru all of them.

5 were rejected outright by the burner. Upon inspection, there was *visible* damage to the dye layer. From mottling to (on the worst one) dots of dye with clear rings around them!

Of the remaining 5, 4 burned, but failed verification. Failed almost immediately.

*One* out of the 10 seems to have burned ok.

I've filed a defective item refund request with the vendor.

Based on this, I'm not gonna try CenDyne media again.

BTW, in the "what were they thinking?" column, the top surface of the disk is *black*, with whit lines for you to write above.

My question is "what, exactly, am I supposed to write on them *with*? Felt pens are essentially invisible unless you hold the disk at just the right angle.

And the only pens I know of that will write visibly on a black surface use what is essentially thin paint. Which weighs a lot more than ink does. I'd be afraid of causing balance problems when the disc gets up to speed.

So, as I said, what exactly were they thinking?

The 50 gig BD-Rs (a different brand) are working ok, though they are purple. Still a bit of a pain to read, but nowhere near as bad as the black.

They were thinking that if they can produce these for $1.00 and sell them to a few million suckers at $5 a pop, they'd have made millions, is my guess.

If you ordered them on Amazon, give them an honest review, and then post the pictures of the damage to the "customer photos" section.

Yeah, I went to bed early from tiredness and illness. (IBS episode.) So I got up earlier, too. Gonna go to the library soon, but yeah, see you later today.
