Scary thought

Last night as I was grabbed the stuff for my bedtime injection of insulin, I realized that it's a *really* good thing that my slow acting insulin looks so different from the fsast acting.

If I gave myself a shot of 35 units of the fast acting, I'd probably kill myself. *shudder*

Yeah, that IS a scary thought. You might want to mention it to your doctor, because the risk probably outweighs the benefits.

Uh, Fay? That's the risk for *anybody* on both kinds of insulin which is the majority of diabetics, I suspect. And the benefits are living to retirement age...

Besides, it would take a *major* brain fart. The fast acting stuff is clear, the slow stuff is milky white.

Well, I keep the opened vial of the slow acting stuff on a plastic "film canister" sort of container (that barely fits inside the box). The idea was that if I carried it in a cooler of some sort on a tip, it'd be protected from water and stuff that could contaminate the top of the vial.

For now, if makes them pretty distinctive.

Though I eventually want something similar for the fast acting stuff.

As far as tactile markings go, I learned about those from my blind friend Lin. The commission for the blind sells tubes of stuff called "high mark" (or something like that). It squeezes out thru a thin nozzle and dries to leave raised lines of bumps on surfaces. Usually in bright color like fluorescent yellow or orange.

Turns out to be pretty much the same as the fabric paint you can buy in tiny plastic squeeze bottles in the crafts section at Fred Meyer.

I've got three bottles of that (purple, yellow and pink) that I've used for a few things (mostly visual marking, like putting pink lines between the F4/F5 and F8/F9 keys on my wireless keyboard where they don't have the usual big gap. Saved me a *lot* of keying mistakes since F4 and F8 get used a lot.

Just checked. The brand name is Scribbles 3D paint. You might consider investing in such. A little goes a *long* way.
