I hate windows part 56792

Ok, every so often I get a "you are running low on virtual memory" message from Windoze. Along with a "increasing virtual memory".

Today I was annoyed enough to google increasing virtual memory.

Imagine my surprise when I saw that the starting value was set to 345 meg. and the Max to 1500 and some.

It's now set to 2048 starting & 4095 as max (won't let me set it any higher).

Hopefully this will eliminate a number of annoyances.

Googling that with the quotes gets no results. Without the quotes it gets a few hits about windows phones and VM stuff.

Since the system is maxed out at 2 gig, and it won't *let* me select more than 4095 meg as the max virtual ram, the "more than double" can't happen.

Nope, it's 2k. And it *is* set higher than my installed RAM.

Installed RAM: 2gig (2048 meg)
Virtual RAM: 2048 (min) 4095 max

Slackware WINS big time. YMMV of course but banishing M$ from my life has been priceless.

I love Ubuntu! But it has its own issues. It doesn't transfer big files worth shit; gets frozen trying to do a transfer that Windows does in less than a minute.
