_Shuttle Down_ was originally serialized in _Analog_ a few years before the tragedy.

I once had a brief e-mail correspondence with Stine when (obsessive-compulsive that I am) I reported a typo in a table of a nonfiction book of his. He thanked me. :-) Then told me it wasn't his fault; it happened sometime during typesetting. (Yes, a real typo.)

Stine wasn't the only one predicting tragedy for the Space Transportation System. People were already getting fired from NASA for trying to bring attention to the problems.

I first read it in Analog. But The book version coming out when it did really put the fox among the chickens.
