Dumb newscritters
Dec. 31st, 2009 11:47 pmWatching the 11 pm *local* news here, one of the anchors made a comment about it being 50 minutes until the New Year here and then went on to say sometime about the celebration in NYC which had been "about an hour ago".
I live in Oregon. There's a *three* hour time difference from NYC. By his comment, he obviously thought there was only a 2 hour difference.
Gives you *ever* so much confidence when they get basic stuff like that wrong. Add in the way they can't seem to see obvious errors in stuff they'be been told by one side or another when covering politics and you'll understand why I don't really expect much from the news. :-(

Date: 2010-01-01 04:09 pm (UTC)Yeah. I get criticized, sometimes, for "nitpicking" but my reply is similar: If they can't bother to get minor details right, they're either ignorant or uncaring, and either way you can't trust them to get the major details right, either.
Of course, in your example, he may have just been "sampling the punch" for a while. :-)
