I got given some really odd tomatoes by a neighbor. They are one of many things folks are growing in the garden out back of the Apartment building (I've not been involved in the growing, as my knees won't let me spend that much time close to the ground)

Anybody recognize the variety?

There's a lot of varieties of tomato of that general shape. We have at least a couple of similar varieties in our garden. How big are they?

It could be some variant of Brandywine, or maybe a Tomande. It's probably heirloom, which means that the seeds would breed true.

It's hard to tell from the photo, it's definitely a "Beefsteak"-style, but my guesses are:

Dutchman
Purple Calabash
Chocolate Stripes
Ceylon
1884
Aussie
German Pink
Marizol Red
Pink Accordion
Tim's Black Ruffles
Todd County Amish
Possibly even the USDA "Large Red" variety.

(I grow heirloom tomatoes, so yeah...) Also the cracks on them indicate that they may be getting too much water too fast.
