...since I posted about caching.

I did 19.6 miles over about 5 hours on Monday. In 90° heat (not the best idea in the world). Ran out of fluids earl;y on and had to stop at a gas station and buy some gatorade (which I really should be cutting 50 with water since I'm diabetic, but....)

3 of the hours were spent moving accord to the GPs. So obviously the rest was searching and resting. Found 5 caches.

I also was very wiped out. It was a struggle making it home from the last cache. And when I got home, my t-shirt was stuff in places from sweat (and had a white rime of salt crystals around some of them)

Thursday night I got an email notification of a new cache and not too far off. It was after 10 when I got the notice and after midnight before I got going. Swung by a cache that has driven me nuts in the past because I *knew* where it had to be but couldn't find it. This time I found it right where I expected (it's a magnetic nano-cache for those familiar with them) . Someone had screwed the lid on so tight I couldn't get it open. I logged it as found anyway.

Got to the new cache and discovered that the same guy who beat me (by minutes, I saw him leaving) to a new cache on Monday had arrived at this one before I'd even read the email. Arggh. Oh well, at least it was a find.

And I wasn't too far from one of the caches I'd planned to hit today (Friday) and since it was a few blocks to one side of the straight route to most of the caches, I swung by it. Found it without too much trouble (and without disturbing folks, which is important at night. Especially in an alley. :-)

Got home and logged the three caches. And noted that a guy that'd found the new cache 20 minutes after I had had already logged it. But the FTF hadn't logged it yet.

Today I took off around two. Had to make a swing by the post office, then it was out on my preplanned route to hit a number of caches in a big loop. Found 10 of them, couldn't find one, and gave up looking on a couple others. Got home after around 6 hours, having put in 23.7 miles.

Decided to check my blood sugar and it was only 129. Between that and the fact that I was staying in higher gears and at higher speeds today, I guess this is doing some good.

I had a sandwich before I left, had a bike bottle of the cut down gatorade in the holder on the bike and a liter of water in the panniers. Had about a dozen blackberries from vines near one cache (mmm!). Later had a sort of granola bar thingy. And even later had some banana chips.

I ran out of water completely (I'd been topping off the bike bottle with water from the liter when I stopped) about a mile from home. And I hadn't been drinking as often as before to stretch it. Next time I'll toss the other liter water bottle in. And since I started getting the sort of headache I'd had for a lot of the ride Monday towards the end of this one, I think I'll toss in the canister of gatorade powder too next time.

Now I just have to plan a route and pick a day.

ps. I left out the cache IDs because I wasn't sure if anybody really cared. If folks do, I'll go back to listing which ones I found and which I didn't
