anybody know what this is?

kengrThis is a tree near my place that I encountered while geocaching. It's almost 11 feet around (130") which means it's almost 42" across.
I had the shopping cart in the pics for scale. I'll need to go back and make some distant shots to try to get the whole thing in the picture.
The last two shots are of the leaves so someone who knows better than I do about trees can maybe ID it.
Didn't notice until after I took the shots that there are some golf ball sized yellowish-white balls on some of the branches (up higher than I can reach). That makes me wonder if it's a walnut tree (I know that chests have something similar, but those are spiked instead of smooth)
