Please, go rent it. Or find a friend and borrow it. Heck, I think much of it is up on YouTube.
This is history (and science, and some social history stuff as well) they way it *should* be presented. Lots of fun too.

Date: 2009-06-21 02:23 pm (UTC)Well, they give one chain of explanation for how something comes about, occasionally with branches. There's really not enough room or time in the TV shows to explore all the sidebars and links. IIRC the books go into this some, but I haven't read those in years.
So much depends on personal interests and whims and business and politics that it's easy to understand why the current standard way of doing things could very easily have been different.
