kengrLin got over-confident last Tuesday. She said "I was 'showing off'". She was doing mobility training with her cane, and tripped over something. She hurt both hands and a knee. One hand was just scraped. The other *really* hurt.
Since she doesn't have medical insurance she only got to a doctor today. And found out that the reason a finger still hurts is that she managed to tear a tendon free of the attachment points on *two* joints of the finger.
This is going to require surgery and physical therapy or the like afterwards. And she's not covered by her husband's insurance. (suppressing urge to scream).
That insurance stuff is insane, too. Kermit's a manager at a fast food restaurant. They were owned by the corporation, and had Kaiser, covering both of them. Then the local corporate owned restaurants were converted to Franchise. And after the changeover, they could still get Kaiser, except that Lin didn't qualify because of "pre-existing conditions".
This makes no sense to me (and I suspect that it's illegal).
Their only other choice had a deductible so high and covered so small a percentage of the cost of her prescriptions that they couldn't afford it. Her meds and regular office visit stuff would have been more than they have left after bills... :-(
This sucks majorly.
Lin is now calling her mom. I expect that her Mom will probably pay for the surgery, but it shouldn't be like that.
