Ok, I got the new handset for the nice cordless phone today. Got stuff set up (you have to do all sort of settings on the base *and* on each handset)

First discovery was that the caller ID function won't work if it is behind a "distinctivre Ring" box (this is somewhat broken behavior). This sort of breaks the usefulness of the distinctive ring number.

But just a bit ago, I called Stacy about something. I was using the headset plugged into the handset. And I discovered to my complete and utter disgust that if you have a call active and put the handset in the charger cradle on the base IT HANGS UP!!!!

What idiot thought *that* was a good idea? Especially when using a headset plugged into the handset.

My best guess is that the idiot thought folks would switch to the speaker phone on the base. Well, I hate to tell him this, but many of us prefer to use a headset. It's easier to hear and the mike generally works better.

Don't ALL cordless phones do that? All the ones I've ever had did that.
