An exceprt from an unfinished "chapter" in one of my stories...

(If you want to read what led up to this... Jon's Story )

We'd only been home a short time when the doorbell rang. Mom got it and she let someone in.Then she called me into the living room.

I came in to find a strange woman. Well, a stranger anyway. She looked like I should know her but I couldn't make the connection. While I was trying to figure out why she seemed familiar, Mom introduced us.

"Samantha, this is Johnna. I know you wanted to meet Jon, but as I told you on the phone things are a bit different this week."

Samantha gave me an inquiring look. "Johnna?"

I looked at mom. She nodded. "Yes, she knows. Go ahead and tell her."

Okay, I'd trusted mom this far. "Yes, one of my friends pointed out that we'd get way too much attention if they were calling me 'Jon' while I was dressed like this. The name was sort of an accident. But I decided I liked it."

Samantha was about to say something when mom interrupted. "You two sit down and get comfortable while I check on dinner."

Samantha said "Okay, sis."

I froze halfway into a chair. No. It couldn't be.

Mom chuckled and said, "Looks like Jon figured it out, Sam."

She looked at me, "Go ahead and sit down before you fall over, dear."

In a daze I finished sitting down. I almost forgot to sweep my skirt under me. I just stared at Samantha. Or rather at my uncle, Samuel Renault, my mom's only sibling.

Now that I knew what to look for I could see him under his Samantha persona. It was weird.

"Uncle Samuel, is that really you?"

I should note that he was okay with being "Uncle", and with being "Sam". But calling him "Uncle Sam" was right out.

"Yes, Jon. It's me. But please, Aunt Samantha or even," he paused and grinned at me, "Aunt Sam, is better when I'm en
femme
. And I'll call you Johnna. Okay?"

"O-okay." I stammered.

Just then mom returned with a pitcher and some glasses. "So, are you two getting acquainted?"

Samantha said, "Well we were just getting into the matter of names." She looked at me and asked, "So how did you wind up with 'Johnna' by
accident?"

I started, "Well it was like this." And explained about Brooke's hesitation at lunch and its consequences. Which led to more questions and I wound up telling the tale of Keith.

After mom and Aunt Sam had quit laughing, I decided it was time to ask a few questions of my own.

"So how long how long have you been doing this, Samantha?"

"Well, from what your mom tells me, I probably started the same age you did. But since I had an older sister, it was easier to get clothes."

I saw him look sideways at mom as he said that. I blurted out, "Oh no. You didn't!"

Mom spoke up. "Oh yes he did! I realized that some of my clothes were missing, and that stuff wound up in the laundry when I hadn't worn it. Then I spotted him slipping stuff back a couple times."

Sam came back with, "Well, I was scared to ask. I was sure you'd think I was some sort of freak."

Mom replied, "I know, Sam. And at first thought you were a pervert or something. I thought you were masturbating with them or something the way one of my friends caught her brother doing."

Sam and I both went "Ewww!"

Sam went on to say, "Well, I did masturbate while wearing them sometimes, but not like that!"

Mom said, "I know. I checked things over and there were never any weird stains. Though you did stretch out the front of my favorite pair of panties, you jerk!"

I was beginning to realize that this was an old discussion and they were mostly teasing each other about it.

Sam said, "I know, but I liked them too. And I really couldn't avoid stretching them if I wore them. At least we were the same size then."

"Anyway," mom continued, "I couldn't figure out what he was doing with my stuff. So one day when our parents were out, I said I was going to spend the afternoon at the pool."

"But you didn't go to the pool. You came back and snuck around the house. And spotted me through my bedroom window getting dressed in your stuff."

"I was ready to charge in there and scream at you. But I waited because I couldn't figure out what you were doing. You just tried things on and posed and primped and stuff."

"And then you waited until I was in some stuff I couldn't get out of in a hurry and let yourself into the house."

I broke in. "You mean she caught you dressed up?!"

Mom grinned. "I actually managed to sneak back in and get to his bedroom door without him hearing me. I threw open the door and there he was dancing in one of my outfits."

Sam winced, "Yeah, there I was, all tarted up, and Barb walks in. I thought I was going to die."

"Well, I was about ready to kill you. But then you just folded up and started crying before I could say anything."

"Yeah, it took you half an hour to calm me down."

"But finally I got him to tell me what he was doing. And why."

"Yeah, she got me to admit that I liked dressing up and thought I looked better as a girl than as a boy."

"And then I told him 'Look, I don't care if you want to look like a girl. But quit swiping my clothes!!!'"

I couldn't help it. I burst out laughing at the image.

Sam and mom both protested. They practically chorused "It wasn't funny!"

Sam was the first to crack. "Well, it wasn't funny at the time. It is sort of funny looking back on it."

I asked, "So how did you settle things? I can't see you stopping wearing the clothes."

Mom answered, "No. He couldn't. And when I saw how important it was to him, I didn't have the heart to stop him. So I made a deal. He could ask to borrow stuff. And I'd get him some of his own underwear."

"But since neither of us wanted to tell our folks, I had to keep my panties and bras in her room. Which was a nuisance. But at least she'd help me with makeup and stuff."

"Yeah, it was sort of fun having a little sister. Pity you were so scared about going out."

"Hey! It was a lot more dangerous then than it is now. And you did talk me into it a few times."

Mom sighed. "Yes, but you quit after we ran into Charlie at the mall."

I broke in, "Wait a sec. Charlie? You don't mean..."

Sam winced. Mom smiled. "Yes, we were shopping for Sam. She needed some new things and she had to come along because were weren't the same size any more."

Sam said, "Yeah, and I was scared stiff. Walks to the park and store were one thing. But there were way too many people there."

"Anyway, there we were. Sam had calmed down and was enjoying things a bit. She was in a dressing room and I was checking out an outfit in the mirror and Charlie walks up. Just as Sam comes out of the dressing room."

"Yeah, there I was in a nice outfit with makeup and everything. I'd just said 'Hey, sis, how's this look?' when I see Barb's boyfriend standing there."

Mom objected, "He wasn't my boyfriend!" Sam just gave mom a look. "No, he wasn't. Not yet!"

Sam drawled, "Riiight. So here's Barb's not-a-boyfriend who has been hanging around her all the time. And been to the house a lot. He knew Barb didn't have a sister. And he'd met me. As her brother."

I asked, "This was dad, right?"

Mom answered, "Yes, it was your father. We'd been to a couple of dances together, and I liked him, but he wasn't my boyfriend yet."

Sam said, "If you say so. Anyway, there I was, in full girl mode in front of someone who knew me as a guy. And I was just waiting for the screaming to start."

"So was I," Mom said. "But he just looked at you funny for s minute then he got this wide eyed look. But he didn't say anything. He just turned to me and sort of made this little hand gesture at Sam."

"Yeah, I'm wondering why he hasn't started yelling yet. And Barb sort of pulls herself together and gives me a pleading look. Then she says, 'Charlie, I don't think you've met my sister, Samantha?'"

"Sam looked like he was about to faint. then Charlie up and said 'Pleased to meet you Samantha.' And held out his hand."

Sam said, "Yeah, I think I must have been in shock. Because I held out my hand. and Charlie kissed it!"

I was trying not to fall off the couch. "Dad kissed your hand?"

Sam nodded. "And he winked at me."

Mom said, "That had me ready to freak out. Here was this guy I like and he was kissing my brother's hand!"

I just sat there going "Oh god. Oh god."

Sam said, "I freaked a little bit too, but Charlie apologized for... how'd he put it? Oh yeah, 'taking unwarranted liberties'. I'm not sure why, but that calmed me down. I guess I could see he wasn't going to be upset about my secret life."

Mom said, "Yeah. Charlie got us to go on with shopping. And then rode home on the bus with us. Sam changed when we got home, because we weren't sure how much longer we'd have before the folks got back."

Sam said "Yeah, it was weird. Didn't bother him. He did ask if I was gay, and when I said no, he just shrugged and we talked about other stuff.

"But I couldn't keep from thinking about what might have happened. It wasn't until after college that I got up the courage to go out on my own. And I've regretted taking so long ever since."

Mom gave Sam a hug. "I know, sis." She turned to me. "That's why I'm pushing you a little. I know how much it hurt Sam all those years. I don't want you going through that."

I was still absorbing all this info, but I nodded. After minute I asked "So since dad's known about Sam for all these years, that's why you told me not to worry about him?"
