I've been expecting this for many years:

Pastor's Column On Gay Babies Raises Ire

The original article that the above comments on basically says "Ok, if it's biological than the Bible says we need to use prenatal hormones treatments to 'cure' it."

The article linked above has a poll about whether or not that sort of thing should be done. please go and vote. The "No" votes are ahead as I write this, but not by much.


I'm not as angry about this as many of you probably are after reading this. But that's because I've been *expecting* this for 30 years.

I'll admit up front that I haven't read the column nor the comments, yet.

But what if there were a way to prevent a baby from being born gay. If it's true that homosexuals are born that way, and furthermore if it's true that their lives are less happy or more difficult than others', then how would it be a bad thing to prevent it, if that is possible?

I'll go click on the link now, and perhaps I'll get a different perspective. :-)

The only reason that a gay, lesbian or trans person's life is "less happy or more difficult than others'" is because *society* says that they are "wrong", "sick" etc.

People with high IQs often have unhappy lives because *they* don't fit in.

Again, it's the whole "different is wrong" concept.

Why should we change people who *don't* have anything wrong with them just to satisfy bigots?

Oh yeah, anything that has such a strong tendency to cause few or no offspring as being homosexual does *has* to be related to something that has one heck of a strong selective advantage to be as common as it is.

Messing with genetics (even as indirectly as the hormone treatment would) is something to be approached with *considerable* fear and trepidation.

as more and more examples accumulate, of animals engaging in homosexual behaviors in the wild, the anti-gay faction is losing its argument that homosexuality is "unnatural".

Alas, no. When this is pointed out, they just shift to "the animals don't know any better" and "humans are supposed to be better than animals" and so on and on.

Since their ultimate "authority" is "the Bible says it's wrong" you *cannot* get at them by logic. Instead you have to break that key premise or else they'll just try a different attack.

Some folks will listen to reason. But many are seeking *excuses* to justify their prejudices against folks who are different.

Remember, I'm the person who has said many times in the past that even *nasty* recessives shouldn't be edited out without taking precautions.

Because genes that are "pro survival" in one environment can be anythung but in another. And sometimes those "bad" genes *as unmatched recessives* will be what you need to survive.

Well, I don't know if it was deliberate or not, but the computer is named "Joe". And one of the real early stories about self-aware computers (as opposed to robots) was Murray Leinster's "A Logic Named Joe".
