I've been using and recommending F-Prot antivurs for almost 20 years.

I'm withdrawing the recommendation. Their new version 6 is doing all the things that made me *quit* using Norton for "real time protection".

Namely, it deletes and quarantines files without asking (you can configure it to "ask" whether or not to "disinfect" a file if the realtime protection spots it. You can't even do that if you do a manual scan.).

You can't even disable it to deal with files it has a problem with. Hell, I couldn't even get Task Manager to shut it down!

Yes, you can restore files from Quarantine (and even from deletion). But you then have yto go thru a *seperate* set of screens to tell it to ignore the file in the future.

Given that it deleted several old "joke" programs that are no threat, and quaratined a bunch of hardware install & setup programs that I *know* aren't a threat this is *very* irritating.

Having it break my email the same way Norton did way back when was the last straw.

I've sent technical support several nastygrams about this. I don't really expect anythung resembling a useful response. In fact, I won't be that surprised if they just plain don't reply at all.

I'm sorry, but given the existence of false positives, I *refuse* to use an AV program that denies access to files without even asking me.

Warn me, yes. Lock files (and thus render program unusable) and you've lost a customer.
