Help me, LJ Genie, you're my only best hope.
I want a GPS unit. It needs to be usable standalone, but also be usable with a PC or laptop.
I've got an old DeLorme unit that can *only* be used with a computer (no display). And it doesn't work worth beans indoors and takes forever to get a lock outdoors.
So I want speed, decent display, ability to transfer data to and from the unit, and a unit that uses *normal* batteries.
I'd also prefer that the unit not require proprietary software to talk to the PC. For example, the DeLorme unit is only usable with their map programs as it doesn't talk the standard GPS-to-computer protocol.
So, anybody have any recommendations?
