Naked man killed in possible police shooting near Sandy

This came thru on the evening news a bit ago. Thing is, the story has already changed. Now the police are no longer saying that the guy was armed. Just that the officers felt threatened. And shot him after tasering him twice to no effect.

Normally, I'm willing to cut the police a fair bit of slack on shootings. But this one just doesn't seem right. Two officers, one naked man.

There's *something* really weird going on here...

A sheriff's deputy and police officer shot and killed an armed, naked man who was wanted in connection with a hit-and-run car accident Thursday afternoon north of Sandy, authorities said.

...

"Citizens further report the man was naked, combative and that they believed they heard at least one gunshot in the area he fled to," said Detective Jim Strovink with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office....

Well, fighting naked worked for the Scots ;-).

I meant the story going out over the air. They *may* get around to updating the story on the website before the 11pm broadcast, but I woul;dn't hold my breath.

I wrote the post during the 5:00-5:30 newscast. The story had changed *again* by the 6pm news.

THe last I heard on KOIN news he was unarmed and naked. I know from second hand experience having been there that a crazed man on drugs can be very very dangerous indeed. I saw one fall out of a second floor window and get up and run around and it took 15 police officers to down and sequester that man. Over dosing on Methamphetamine can cause serious imparement. So I can understand the reluctance to try to apprehend a person who is gone berzerk.
