It is making life far more tolerable. And the maintenance guy told me that thne other person who currently has an air conditioner in this building doesn't take it out for the winter, so...

I need to put writing a program to record the data from my weatherstation gear back on my to-do list. For one, that'd let me do the webpage for it as html instead of the current JPEG (that the manufacturer's software does) and also let me track stuff better (the supplied software saves one reading an hour).

Well I've got a LaCrosse Technology WX-2310 weather station. Only software available for it is Heavy Weather.

There are a few third party programs that'll work with the data file Heavy Weather creates once a minute. And that's the file I'd be accessing as well.

Oh yeah, the air conditioner may let me cheat and stick the rain guage and wind speed/direction units out the window too. The wind data will be compromised by being so close to the building, but it'll do. Rain data will be somewhat more reasonable.

That one got a flat out *no* when I mentioned it some time ago. They don't let folks have even the little dish TV dishers mounted on the building either.

The gear I've got appears to have no software for it other than what the manufacturer supplies.

I'll check your links later just in case, though. And eventually, I need to see if they'll let me have docs for the "protocol the station uses over the serial port when connected to the computer. I'd much rather hook it to an old DOS box or something instead of a Windoze box.

Serial ports aren't that bad. You want fun, I've got a couple of otriginal IBM PC ASynch cards. Those support both RS-232 *and* 20 mA current loop!!!

As for "living fossils", I have systems (working systems) that max out a 128 K, 32k, and *8k* of RAM respectively. :-)

Ah. That does make a difference. Though finding something better (even if not a lot better) via freecycle (if that's active in your area) shouldn't be too hard.
