In case you don't know, in Oregon, a doctor can write you a prescription allowing you to use marijuana for a medical condition.

You then file some paperwork and you can grow it yourself, or have a designated someone grow it for you.

On the news tonight the top story is about someone who was growing marijuana for a friend. Legally. So men broke into his house and attacked him to get the marijuana plants.

Only way he can see that they found out that he had them was that somehow the info in the state records "leaked". The state says they are kept confidential.

I figure that there are only two ways the info could have gotten out:

1. his friend or his family talked somewhere they shouldn't have.
2. Someone involved with the state agency that handles the paperwork leaked the info.

And I'm rather more inclined to think the latter, given that the odds favor there being *someone* involved who either doesn't approve of the program or who saw a chance for some easy money.

Either way, this is going to cause problems with the program.

Wish we could just get it over with and make the stuff as legal as alcohol.

Or...

... depending on how he grows it, someone saw it -- through a window, etc.

Or someone mentioned it to a friend, who mentioned it to a friend, who mentioned it to a friend... Remember the old Kevin Bacon game. It doesn't take many hops to go from "trusted buddy" to "The Godfather".

Or someone hacked the list, knowing it would provide a group of people who are growing weed but don't take any of the precautions that the usual crooks doing so would.
