Really poor excuse for a parent...

Subject: [freecycleportland] Wanted....Please Read !!

A friend of my boys' has turned 17 today. All week, his mother has
told him she had a huge surprise for him for his birthday. He went
home last night to see what it was, she had packed up all his clothes
and put them in storage (was too busy then to go get them out for
him) and kicked him out of the house. No gifts were even given to
this child. We have taken him in, so he has a roof over his head and
food on his table....but he has no clothing !! We'll get him what
we can...but in the mean time, he has nothing, and has celebrated a
birthday with nothing...my heart goes out to him.

If anyone has any clothing he could have, I would greatly appreciate
it, and I'm sure he would as well. I'm guessing his sizes are...
Shirts...XL
Pants....36 or 38...with a 32 or 34 inseam
Shoes....size 13

Maybe some belated birthday wishes, cards, whatever would cheer him
up a bit as well.

If there is anything you can do to help him out, or help us out in
getting these items to him quicker...we'd so appreciate the help.

From the wording, it's *just* the nmothere. No father around.

And yeah, I share your sentiments. I was tempted to look up a few biker types I know and see if they'd be interested in having a "word" with the bitch.

Kicking the kid out because he screwed up beytond what she could deal with I can understand even if I don't agree with it.

But that "big surprise" routine? That's sheer, utter cruelty.

Unless I'm horribly mistaken and/or the bitch has filed emancipation papers for the kid, she has a legal responsibility to take care of him until he's 18.

Were I you, I'd advise them to call the cops on her.

I did. I also suggested talking to Legal Aid. And pointed out that even if she *can* kick him out legally, he's got a legal right to his possesions, even if she paid for them.

And I'm pretty sure that you *can't* emancipate a minor without said minor's consent.

BTW, I did *not* suggest "Children's Services" as I expect that they'd be more likely to screw things up *worse*.

It sounds as if she is really unpleasant and he is better off with you. Sadly you are too far away for clothes from here to help, and anyway, is he a cross-dresser? OK, Captain Ex runs a local charity shop so we could have got clothes easily. Do you have those? In a well-off area the clothes will be good.

I did scream at a teen (student home on hols, me working full time, dishes in sink, room knee deep in dirty washing) to get out once. She went and returned some hours later to tell older sister she had taken asprin and beer and was wondering why she was still alive. Rush to emergency, child made sick, doctor suggested overnight stay and child just wanted to come home. By 2.am so did her older sister and I. Sister informed me I am the parent from hell and we all went home. I've been feeling guilty ever since. (10 years)

We get on pretty well now, she got me a Buffy school bag and Archers calendar for Xmas, that I really loved. The gift she chose was, however, in the national debt price range.

It's not me that the kid is with. I don't even know the lady who has taken him in.

But I feel for him. I did something stupid and got in trouble when I was that age. And mom basically told the cops "He's not going to live *here* anymore..."

But I got to go pick some of my stuff later.

From further commincation, it seems that the "mother" has left or is about to leave the state... :-(

Sad excuse for a parent and obviously kinda sick in the head to mess with his head that way, and what she did was illegal but if the cops are called he will be put in state custody and stuck in foster care until he is 18 unless a relative can take him in. As for his things if she bought them then they are legally hers. Hopefully he can find someone to take him in and finish school into college somehow. He is probably better off without her.
