So, if it is the faith of the person that controls whether or not a vampire is repelled by the appropriate "holy symbol", then inquisitors have a *nasty* way of seeing if you really believe or not. If they can capture and hold a vampire, or strike a deal with one.
Just hand the suspect the "appropriate" holy symbol And stuff them into a room with the vampire and watch the results.
One possible way of getting co-operation from the vampire might be letting him or her have anyone who fails the test.
