Had an eye exam yesterday. First one in several years because I didn't have insurance.

Thank all the gods and goddesses that they had something other than that damnable "air puff" thing to measure intraocular pressure (to check for incipient glaucoma). Some gizmo that required eye drops and a blue light.

There was the usual fun with the second set of eyedrops to dilate my eyes for the last part of the exam. And the insanely bright lights they use after they get your eyes dilated. For me with my really good low light level vision that was *acutely* painful.

End result? My eyes aren't appreciably changed from my last prescription (assuming they got that from my glasses, that means 4-6 years). Enough that I *could* get new glasses (as if I could afford them since glasses are *not* covered by the Oregon Health Plan) but I don't *need* them.

Retina and blood vessels in the eye are all ok.

However. There are some tiny cataracts. The doctor said it'd be years and years before they are anythuing to worry about. But still, that's something I didn't have in the past. Getting older is not great. But it still beats the only currently aviailable alternative.

For the first time in ages it was a sunny day, so I was very glad of my clip-on sunglasses on the way home. I'm not sure when my eyes went back to normal, but it was well after 7pm.

I decided to go hit Winco on the way home, even though I'd left the reusable bags at home. Not my best decision. The east wind was *cold*,. and while I didn't get that much (my stockpiling over the months is starting to pay off), it turned out to be *very* awkward getting stuff home.

It's not worth the extra bus fare to go out again just for one thing I forgot (I can just pay the higher price at the store next door) And I can live without the one thing I needed a price check on.

At least I've got lots of stuff that I can eat as is if the power goes. I hope we *don't* get the storm they were worrying about. Six inches of snow doesn't bother *me* but it'd shut down the city for *days*...
