I have a new appreciation for that song.

You see, by my estimation I moved around 4 tons today. Around 4-5 cubic yards of stuff. Mostly books and magazines in boxes. The ones with magazines are *heavy*.

I kicked into "last resort" mode on Friday. Started moving stuff out of the 10x10 locker into the 5x10 (computer stuff I;m planning to get rid of goes there right now) and into the 10x15 locker (stuff I hope to keep).

Friday saw me get at a few things I'd been wanting to get at for years. Like a nightstand, that's now by my bed replacing the kludge I'd made from a footstool and a mini-shelf.

Also saw me half kill myself moving stuff like the TRS-80 Model II. The computer wasn't too bad. The 3 drive external drive bays (one with 3 full height 8" floppy drives in it) were murder.

Saturday I recovered and dealt with other stuff. Today I put in over 4 hours shifting that stuff. And note that it all had to be moved twice. Once to the cart and once from the cart to its location in the big locker. Ugh.

My plan, such as it is, is to get the stuff I want to keep in the 10x15 first. Then the stuff that is probably salable (My comic collection is now accessible and most of it will get sold as soon as I can start sorting it by title to get a better price at the shops).

And also in "front", but leaving the comics and rare computer stuff accessible will be the stuff that needs to be sorted thru and the computers that will get stripped for part before going to Free Geek. Most of that will be stripping hard drives (and controllers for the drives that aren't SCSI or IDE) so I can copy the data off them using one of my old systems that can handle them. Won't be too hard given that the system I'll use can run a Zip drive and most of these old drives are 40 meg or less.

Lots of stuff going to Fee geek. Stuff getting sold, And, hopefully managing to keep paying the bills and the fees for the one locker just a bit longer.

Anyway, another day (probably Tuesday) should see the 10x10 cleared out. Which means no rent for it this month. hopefully I can clear the 5x10 by the 10th, which means no rent on it either. At worst, a small pro-rated fee.

ps for anybody else crazy enough to try something like this. As I learned a long time ago, it's best to keep moving, even if you are moving slowly and painfully. You can sit down for a few minutes at a time to catch your breath but no longer. Any longer and you'll stiffen up. I've reached that point now. It hurt to get up and get some gatorade.
