I have offended the hardware gods...
Oct. 30th, 2006 11:08 am... or something.
I updated to Firefox 2.0 and there were problems getting the updates to a couple of the plugins.
After much futzing around, I determined that my router was royally fucked up. Fortunately, I have a spare. Unfortunately, I wasn't sure when I last saved a opy of the config settings.
Apparently, it was recently enough. I haven't found any serious gaps in the config.
While checking them, I discovered that there's one setting that apparently isn't saved. That's where you tell the router to lie to your ISP about it's WAN MAC address. And it turned out to not be the one I thought it was. But at least *this* time I entered it in the file that has all the MAC addresses for my gear
When I went to print out that file and the DHCP config for the router, I found that the LaserJet was inaccessible. Luckiliy, the Phaser was.
Checking that, I figured that all the router swapping and stuff had confused the print server. Nope. It didn't seem to have power. Neither did the printer... Hmmm. Turned out that the 25 year old power strip had died. I have *lots* of spares for those. (Opening it up shows a blown fuse. I may repair it as it's an ancient TRS-80 strip that should be kept with my ancient Model I)
At the moment, everything *seems* to be ok. And I've even eliminated a problem with one of the ethernet ports on this box being flaky. Apparently that was the router starting to go flaky.
