...was "interesting".

Besides the meltdown in a friend's LJ already referenced in a post yesterday, it was the first of the two days I'd been notified to that the window replacement folks might get to my windows on.

Yes, in the name of better energy efficiency, they are replacing all the windows in the apartment building. Personally, I think doing a bit of checking into things like interior walls, and the "attic"/crawl space/whatever between the roof and the ceilings of the second floor apartments might be a better idea. I'm getting lots of extra heat in the winter from *somewhere*,,,

But I digress.

I got lucky. They got to my apartment yesterday. And better yet, they started on it fairly late (11 am or so).

The process involved taking out everything including the window frame. This got a bit noisy at times, but I wasn't going to leave strangers in my apartment. There's too much stuff that is rather easy to damage and expensive to repair/replace. Like my CPAP unit. Or some of my computer stuff.

They finished up around 4.

The only really bad part was after the got the new window assembly in place and had to clean them. Which meant they had both sets of windows *closed*. It wasn't that hot a day, but without a breeze even 75 is a bit on the warm side for me.

But I have my fans back in place and the more important of the things I moved so they could work on the windows have been put back in place.

Oh yes, While they had the windows out, I dug out a tape measure and checked something I'd been wondering about. It's 12' 3" from the windowsill to the ground.

This isn't as bad as I thought, but I'm still less than pleased with the "oh, if there's a fire in the hall, you can escape thru the windows" idea.
