Arrrgh! Political teleslime

Allow me to give you a clue oh political message call.

If your call doesn't have caller ID enabled, I'll let the machine get it.

If your call has obviously bogus caller ID (for example: 11111111111111) I'll not only let the machine get it, but I'll make a note of your cause as one to consider voting against.

Recordings that play automatically at my answering machine lose you points. So do ones that can't figure out that they need to hang up *before* the machine starts recording.

Frankly, I'd like to see providing *correct* Caller ID *required*. With substantial penalties for faking it.

And I'd like to be able to "opt out" of political and survey calls as well.

And it should be a number that you can call back to. There's one number calling here that when we try to call it back it cheerfully informs us that it's for outbound calls only.

You should be able to call the phone company and ask for the associated inbound line. Or just file a complaint with them.

We have roughly the same problem here. Whoever had our phone number before us must have signed up for every phone sucker scheme out there. We get surprise vacation winnings once or twice a day. It's cme to laetting our Answering machine answer all calls, and if it's one of them, or even a recording, we pick-up then hang-up the phone. They're wasting good recording tape. :)

Sounds like you need to getr on the national "do not call" list.

That stops most of it. Except surverys, charities, and political stuff. Also things get odd with companies that have a "previous relationship".

I was amazed when the local paper called and I called back to point out that I was on the "do not call" list. I could *not* get across to the person that I was talking to the simple concept that federal law *required* them to check numbers against the federal list *first*. Before making any calls.

I *AM* on the NDNC, and got a call from a Massachusetts company - VistaPrint - that didn't understand that they had to do this, either - they were willing to 'listwash' me, but that's not good enough. They also called and played a taped message into my answering machine - illegal under the TCPA. Complaints filed with the Attorneys General of the State of New York and of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and with the FTC and FCC.
