Book pairing

I decided to re-read some of my books and discovered that the last two I read made an interesting pairing.
The first was Adiamante by L. E. Modesitt, Jr.
The second was Mother of Storms by John Barnes.
What was interesting about reading them in that order was that Adiamante has a philosophical point being made at one point that writing down principles as rules makes it easier to abuse them.
And then in Mother of Storms, we have an important character who has gotten rich doing exactly that and doesn't think there's anything wrong with it.
I found this both ironic and enlightening.
