More same-sex marriage in Oregon
Mar. 3rd, 2004 08:53 amIn a bit over an hour, Multnomah County, Oregon (which is where most of Portland is) will start issuing same sex marriage licenses. The news only got out yesterday (late in the day).
The 5pm news had it as an unconfirmed item. It was confirmed by 6pm. And by 11pm, we had a line.
One of the couples that the news folks talked to was a pair of men, with their adopted son (I'm bad at ages, but I'd guess age 8-12). They said something about "we're already a family as far as adoption goes. Now we can be a *real* family".
I'm waiting for the news conference that starts at 9am.
added later
The conference is on now, and the county's head attorney is talking and giving her legal opinion and that of an independent counsel that the Oregon stat constitution forbids discrimination in marriage on the basis of gender or sexual orientation!
Yay!!!
