What goes around...

A strange tale of luck & karma.
Ok, this is a bit convoluted and I have to go back to last Friday.
On Friday, my friend Kathy had to attend some sort of special company meeting. Part of it was a drawing for various prizes. She wasn't feeling well, so she left early. She told a co-worker (call her Cindy) to hold onto her ticket and let her know if she won the big prize. There were the usual "Suuure I'll tell you..." jokes.
Saturday, Kathy comes in to work, and another coworker tells her "You need to call Cindy..."
Kathy goes "But it's 7am on her day off, she'll kill me!"
"No, she really wants you to call her."
"But...."
"just call her.."
So Kathy calls her. And finds out that she actually *did* win the big prize. A 48" HDTV projection TV set.
She called me when she got home Saturday (which, as you may recall, was my birthday). So I joked about "Well, that's a nice birthday present for me". She didn't buy it. Drat!
I inquired as to what she was going to do with her old set. Which was not only bigger than mine, but also has more inputs and outputs.
Alas, she was going to put it in her bedroom.
Yesterday, she called me up to ask if I still wanted her set. You see, her bedroom has a narrow doorway and the old set wouldn't fit.
So, I got her old set. Didn't get a chance to go over for it until today. So we loaded it into her van. And it was *heavy*. Also awkward.
I had her swing by Gary and Anita's (I'd checked on my way out and they hadn't been home). They were home. I got greeted by one of the kids and Gary's voice came from out back. So I walked out back and asked if they'd like a 20" set.
His response was "Duh!". :-)
I then explained about the TV swapping. For some reason he was quite glad to help haul my new-to-me TV up to my apartment. Then we hauled my old set down.
It's not much bigger than their old set as far as the screen goes. But they'd lost the remote to their set a long time ago, and it was one of the ones where you can't even adjust the brightness without a remote. Also, their old set had just twinlead and coax inputs.
My old set (now theirs) has a full set of controls behind a panel in *front* of the set, is stereo, and has both video and audio in & out jacks. Which means that once they get a few cables, they can get much better video and audio from their VCR and DVD player as well as the various game systems their kids use. And they should be able to use their DVD player to play CDs.
Oh yeah, the set still has the original remote. :-)
So the luck has spread on down the line.
