Eclipse was interesting
Aug. 21st, 2017 10:53 amBut not as nice as totality would have been.
Pity we weren't in the zone of totality, but even with what we got there were some interesting effects.
I was in the Albertson's parking lot and looking at the trees and hedge they started looking weirder and weirder. Probably because we were still getting full spectrum light, but it was a lot dimmer than normal.
Colors looked "off" and the the light looked "wrong". I can see why that used to spook people.
I made a point of going out to look because *last* time (1979) it was overcast and you couldn't see anything...

Date: 2017-08-22 01:13 pm (UTC)I had about 93% of totality. I had bought both a book on the eclipse and several pairs of glasses months ahead of time. Yesterday I wound up giving two of my last three glasses to my downhill neighbor (she has a lot of kids) and sharing the last pair with my uphill neighbor.
Last week my Mother - remembering something I did for the 1979 eclipse - requested I make a pinhole viewing box. I gave her that, plus a pair of the glasses. She called later to enthuse about being able to use both, and sharing the box with a neighbor.
Yeah, things got sort of amber, here, around the peak.
