Yesterday on a mailing list I'm on, someone decided that they just *had* to post a rant that amounted to "there's no such thing as a transgender community, and talking about or pretending there is is dangerous for transsexuals"

They got called on it and it got ugly. They made all sort of horrid generalizations about crossdessers that I suspect that are based on bad experiences they've had with weird folks who happened to be crossdressers.

I made several posts pointing out there errors (and insults) and they kept coming back with stuff about "there's no such thing as 'TS-light'" and more insulting comments about crossdressers.

And now they've pulled the "oh gee, once again I find that I can't be in a group to support TS people without all these horrid folks who want to colonize it, so I'm dropping the list".

I probably did a bad thing and sent here a private email calling her on it again and pointing out that she was getting it because I object to the "drop a bomb, stir thing up and then leave with more insults" tactic.

*Why* do so many people have trouble with the idea "my experiences aren't the same as yours, but there are similarities that we can both learn from".

Or with the idea of different but somewhat related groups being lumped together because they have to deal with similar flack from society at large?

Arrrggghhh!

Because they place so much of their identity into being the victim and being misunderstood that it's their default method of coping with the world? Because if what you do is okay it somehow invalidates their choice? (Not that it does in reality, but in their "all or nothing" mindset, it CANNOT be allowed, otherwise they've been wrong. *Gasp!*)

umm stuck in a room, with unlimited chips, pop, video games....Oh, and porn, yeah, gotta have porn....maybe some women...

yeah..that sounds gooooood. :)

Sure, and the women will tie you up so you can't do anything but watch while they eat the chips, drink the pop, play the games and watch the porn.
