kengrI heard a loud noise out in the hall around 5:30 pm Wednesday. I looked thru the peephole to see the guy in Apt 5 unlocking his door.
Something didn't look right. Then I realized I couldn't see my bike. I threw on a pair of pants and checked it was gone.
I asked when he'd seen it last but he said he hadn't been out of the apartment in days. Though, come to think of it, he'd obviously been coming back from someplace when I saw him.
I asked one of the other two folks on this floor (the other one won't answer her door). She wasn't sure when she'd seen it.
But iI know it was there late Moday night (well, Tuesday morning, actually). I don't recall for certain if I went out of the apartment on Tuesday. I think I did, but I'm not certain.
But best guess is tat it was grabbed sometime Wednesday.
I've filed a police report and posted info on a local site for helping recover stolen bikes. I'm going to call the shop I bought it from to see if they have the serial number on record. I have it *somewhere*, but there are too many boxes of files to easily dig thru.
There's no way I can replace i. That model currently lists for $550. And given that I'm doing good to set aside $25 a month for things like Orycon, and renewing my AV program and membership in geocaching.com, it'd take me *years* to save it up.
Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll be recovered.
One *really* annoyiong detail is that it had to either be a resident or someone a resident let into the building due to the way the door locks work.
Given that we use RFID type "fobs" to unlock the doors to get in, I'm pretty sure that the system probably records which fob was used when. If I'm right, when I contact management tomorrow, I'm hoping they can pull a list for the door for my wing, and turn it over to the cops.
I can hope...
If it isn't recovered, I wonder if I could do a gofundme to get money to replace it.
I really do need it, and don't see any other way to replace it. :-(
