kengrBack in December I got the renewal notice for my driver's license. I'd put it ogff until now because it was $40. Note that when I first got my license, 10 years back it was only $26
Last night I checked and found the form online. Took a few minutes to figure out how to fill it out in Foxit but I got everything but the signature entered and printed it. Put it in a folder with the notice (which served as proof of address) and a copy of my birth certificate (proof of citizenship)
This morning I left around 8 am (I could have left earlier as the office opened at 8). I was there not long after 8:30. I wish I'd checked the exact time as I'm certain I was in & out in under 10 minutes and maybe less than 5.
BTW, they now make you take off your glasses for the picture. And *man* is the pic on the temporary paper copy *bad*. I doubt the plastic one when it shows up will be any better.
Oh yeah, oddly enouigh they just punched a hole thru the old license and gave it back. Weird.
Since the DMV office on 82nd was only a few blocks from the 777 line, I waled to the 77 stop and took it down to Batteries Plus because I needed some batteries. I remembered to take the watch I needed a battery for, but forget to take the lightbulb I needed a replacement for. Also forgot the dead batteries for recycling and the dead CF lights.
Wonder of wonders they *could* change the battery in the watch. It's a bad design in that you have to remove the band before you can take the back off.
The guy said it was $8.50 to replace the battery or for $16.99 I could get a "lifetime" deal. They'd replace the batteries as long as the watch still ran and I still owned it. Given that this is the watch that goes with my heart rate monitor and thus can go thru a couple batteries a year if I use it regularly, I jumped at the deal.
I also got a big pack of AA alkalines for stuff that's not worth wasting rechargeables on, and 4-pack of 2500 mAhr NimH batteries because thre ones I have are starting to get bad about holding a charge and the like. I'll probably start shifting the old ones to the mice and the like. The new ones will do for the GPS and as I get a few more, for other things as well.
A productive several hours.
Next project, get the bike tires pumped back up to the proper pressure and start riding again.
